Top 10 Finish for Viking Ursus Duo

Mark Holme and Colin Kingsnorth were back in French Fun Cup action at Dijon last weekend.

Jonny Hoad joined them in qualifying, where they finished the session 15th out of the 59 entries.

“We made the cut for the top 20, which was so important for the reverse grid. Jonny set the first time, but we were there on our own merit too,” said Mark.

Starting from seventh on the grid Kingsnorth took the opening stint.

“We made good progress again, but learned it was better to fuel under a full course yellow, then change drivers in the pitstop widow. But we didn’t realise it until we had lost a lap, “Mark explained.

After one hour they were 10th, losing one place by the end of the second hour.

“We had front running pace, but the crews ahead were sharper on strategy, then we had a drive through penalty and lost another lap and I had a spin too,” he added, after they finally took the flag after four hours in 24th place.

Holme started the following days race, from 14th place and held station over the first hour.

“I got a cracking start and stayed with the lead pack until my stop to hand to Colin after 55 minutes. We had made and lost places, with slight mistakes, but were clear of the chasing group,” said Mark.

They were up to ninth place at the end of the second hour and through the further ups and downs of the second half, Kingsnorth took the flag in ninth too, which became eighth after post-race penalties were added.

The car was great, but I did have to serve a penalty after Colin was caught speeding on the pit entry. But a great weekend,” Mark concluded.

The Championship now moves on to Spa-Francorchamps for an 8 hour race on 3rd-5th May.
